They always say you should start your day with a great breakfast and we have a great recommendation for just that. Breakfast Republic. With locations in North Park, Liberty Station, Encinitas, East Village, Ocean Beach, Carmel Valley, Pacific Beach, Mission Valley and Irvine Breakfast Republic is raising feathers in Southern California as a top spot to enjoy the most important meal of the day. Serving tasty takes on American classics such as Oreo Pancakes, Shrimp & Grits and S’mores French Toast, BR is an innovative breakfast destination that locals and visitors will flock to when they’re in search of a fun and unpretentious place to begin the day. Raising the “bar” are BR’s local craft beer and organic kombucha on draft, which are available as samplers to complement many of the unique dishes they serve.
A personal favorite is Soda & Swine. This was so good we had lunch there each day last year. Plus it is directly across the street from the market. If you like meatballs, this is your place. They come in smoked pork, chorizo, beef, chicken, quinoa and vegan. Pick between marinara, mushroom creme or pesto on top of polenta or spaghetti. Add some parmesan and some tasty bread for an incredible meal. They also have burgers and sandwiches, salads and incredible sides. The portions are huge but if you’re still hungry, wait until you see the desserts! We love this place!
In late spring 2018, chef Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins and Rise & Shine Restaurant Group open El Jardín at Liberty Station in the Point Loma community. Inspired by the flavors Zepeda experienced growing up between San Diego, Tijuana and Guadalajara, as well as during her travels throughout Mexico, the menu at El Jardín spotlights Zepeda’s nuanced approach to regional Mexican cuisine, refined and reinterpreted with local ingredients. Rise & Shine founder Johan Engman and Zepeda collaborated closely on the restaurant’s design to bring their shared vision of El Jardín to life through bold pieces and accents throughout the expansive indoor and outdoor spaces that recall the restaurant’s culinary heritage.
El Jardín strives to honor both the diverse cultures that have lent a hand in shaping the seven regions of Mexican cuisine, as well as the ancestral recipes created and shared by matriarchs throughout history.
